Tipperary County Council has issued a statement in response to the demands made of it during the recent March4Tipp demonstration that attracted as many as 5,000 people to the streets of Tipperary town.
In that statement, the council highlights how it is actively pursuing the creation of jobs through ongoing contact with the Jobs4Tipp group in developing a digital hub as a demonstration project, while it is also working with the IDA, Enterprise Ireland, and others to realise job potential.
The Sky Innovation Park is referred to as offering a ‘real opportunity’ for the creation of new employment in the town, while the Local Enterprise Office is highlighted as working with 30 local firms in the area ‘to progress their businesses and create new jobs’.
The need for a by-pass for the town is referred to as being critical to the future development of Tipperary town and the West Tipperary area. With this in mind, the council says it has submitted planning and financial assessments of the project to the National Development Plan and promised to continue raising the matter with the Department of Transport and Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
Efforts to realise the tourism potential of the town and the West Tipperary area are also being promoted.
The statement further refers to various schemes, initiatives and funding sources that are available to assist business in the area.
However, the council has also noted that it must be appreciated that some of the issues identified at the March4Tipp are not within the council’s remit to resolve. To address this, the council says, will require a broad range of public sector bodies, working in partnership with local community, voluntary, business and private sector organisations.
Tipperary County Council has said that it is prepared to facilitate stakeholder engagement between the local community and the relevant agencies.
