Deputy Alan Kelly is welcoming confirmation by The Lunch Bag, Ireland’s largest provider of primary school lunches, that it will double its workforce at its Nenagh headquarters to 500 over the next two years.
The Lunch Bag company announced a €7.5m expansion last year at the site where it currently employs 250 staff. At present the company supplies a daily delivery of 100,000 hot school meals to national school children under a contract with the Department of Education.
Deputy Kelly is also happy that it is an indigenous business that is a Nenagh success story.
The TD sees the service as a benefit to children in giving them the nutrition intake they need, and a benefit to parents as they can reduce their spend on food, their food waste and the time involved in preparing lunches.
The company is led by Ray Nangle and Ger Killian who see Motorway access along with a central location as reasons why Nenagh is an ideal base. The Lunch Bag’s expansion will also see significant indirect employment opportunities for supporting services from food producers to fleet maintenance.
