A fundraising appeal for the Tipperary town Christmas Lights got a boost yesterday when the local Tidy Towns Group donated €300 to the fund.
The Festive Lights are being installed this year by the Tipperary Music Festival Committee – the Tidy Towns Group has also assisted with insurance cover for the event. The Tipperary Town Chamber of Commerce owns the lights and has given them to the Festival Committee for installation this year.
Tipperary County Council is providing financial support for the Christmas lights in the District with Tipperary town, Cahir and Cashel each allocated €5,000. In addition, the Council is allocating each town €1,500 worth of vouchers for it’s Shop Local Giveaway in the run up to Christmas. The absence of a functioning Chamber of Commerce means that an organisation has to be identified that can administer the scheme in Tipperary town. The Tipperary town Christmas Lights fund is to be supplemented with an online fundraiser that has a target of raising €7,000. Business owners and members of the community are supporting the online appeal on the iDonate Platform at this link here.
