Cllr Jim Ryan, an Independent General Election Candidate in North Tipperary got a major campaign boost yesterday when the Honorary President of the constituency Fianna Fáil Comhairle Dáil Ceantar(CDC) resigned over dissatisfaction with Fianna Fáil Housing Policy and gave his support to Cllr Ryan.
Paddy Ryan says Fianna Fáil was the party that provided decent homes for the poorest people in the past but this is not happening under the current minster Darragh O’Brien. In particular Paddy Ryan, who is not related to Cllr Ryan, says the Government’s shared equity scheme to help home buyers is unsustainable.
Over the last two years Paddy Ryan has developed a housing initiative that the Independent Ireland party are now promoting. Cllr Ryan also supports the policy but is running as a totally Independent candidate now supported by Paddy Ryan.
Cllr Jim Ryan has been an Independent Councillor in Thurles since 2004 but was first elected as a Fianna Fáil Councillor in 1999– he resigned when the party declined to put him forward for the County Council election at the time.
