Macra, the organisation representing those aged under 35 living in rural Ireland is calling on the next government to deliver improvements in three main areas: farm succession, rural housing; and mental health & wellbeing.
Macra national president Elaine Houlihan says the organisation envisions an Ireland where every farm and rural business can thrive, where young people are encouraged to innovate, and where the rural way of life is rewarded and valued in society.
Macra wants changes to planning guidelines and improved infrastructure so that housing delivery can increase to enable young people to remain in or return to their local communities. Macra also wants recognition of farmers as a key category in the next government’s health programmes and budgets for rural mental health programmes.
Ms Houlihan is calling on all young people to use their vote and ensure that their voice is heard in the election.
