Tipp Town Tidy Towns Group Keeps “A Nice & Naughty List” On Request For No Election Posters Within 60KM Limit

Election posters are the centre of attention in Tipperary in recent days.

Tipperary Tidy Towns Group is keeping “a nice and a naughty list” as it seeks to enforce it’s request for no election posters within the 60km town limits except in the Market Yard Area.

The group contacted all candidates to make them aware of the request and note that even politicians who missed the request are now complying with the effort to reduce visual clutter, litter and the use of plastic.

Cllr Michael Murphy, based in Clonmel is to make a complaint to Gardaí after 3 of his election signs were damaged by fire last night.

The posters are located in Cloneen and Kiltinan. A passer-by sent the Councillor a video and reported it to an Garda Siochana.

Cllr Murphy says he won’t be dissuaded by what he calls “the cowardly and evil actions of a tiny minority.”

Meanwhile in Cashel, Cllr Liam Browne is highlighting that posters for Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael have been attached to the poles for the pedestrian crossing lights on Friar Street blocking the solar panels and possibly causing a distraction to drivers as pedestrians cross the road. Cllr Browne is calling on local poster teams with the two parties to rectify the situation.

Vision Ireland is reminding candidates and their poster teams that  posters placed below the regulation height of 2.3 metres from the ground  create serious safety issues, and dramatically increase the risk of injury to people who are blind or vision impaired.

The sharp corners and edges of posters can cause cuts or lacerations to the face, with protruding cable ties also presenting an issue.
