Former Tipperary County Council CEO  Joe MacGrath  is one of six people appointed to the Independent Advisory Committee (IAC) on Nature Restoration.

The Government made the appointments and the committee will be tasked with providing advice to the Government on the content of Ireland’s Nature Restoration Plan, which is to be developed under the EU Nature Restoration Law. The Advisory Committee will also engage with the stakeholder participation process, and ensure that the Plan addresses the views of the public, key groups and sectors. In addition, it will be responsible for considering the outputs from inter-departmental working groups across themes of Land, Sea, Towns and Cities, and Finance. The Minister will retain overall responsibility for the Plan, which will require an all-of-Government approach and Government approval. Ireland is expected to submit it’s National Restoration Plans to the Commission by mid 2026.

Dr Aoibhinn Ní Shúillebháin  from UCD is to be the chairperson of the Committee  – the other four nominees are David Kerr a farmer from county Laois, Linda Lennon CEO of Birdwatch Ireland, Norah Parke who has a background in the seafood industry and Professor Tasman Crowe  – Vice President for Sustainability at University College Dublin.
