Drivers in the Tipperary town area are reminded that the traffic lights in the town centre are to be upgraded today. The lights have malfunctioned in several occasions in recent months causing concerns for the safety of all road users.
Tipperary County council is to manage traffic at the junction today by means of a “Stop and Go system.” The lights are on Main Street, part of the N24 at the corner of Bridge and Davis Street. The contractor for the works, Traffic Solutions Ltd, says the work today involves replacing the call buttons used by pedestrians and replacing two traffic light poles that are damaged due to vehicle strikes. The system will continue to operate via sensors on the roadway and will not be a timed set of traffic lights
The repairs are to be completed by 6pm today and possibly earlier.
