Renew Calls From Ireland South MEP To End Practice of Biannual Clock Changes

Seán Kelly, MEP for Ireland South is  renewing his call for the European Union to end the practice of biannual clock changes.

The Irish MEP says the bi annual clock change which takes place this weekend for Winter is proven to have negative effects on health, well-being, and safety. Mr Kelly adds that the practice is no longer fit for purpose as it was first introduced during WW2 to save energy.

The EU did carry out a public consultation in 2018 and at the time 84% of respondents supported ending the bi annual one-hour change in time. The pandemic put the issue on the back burner which is further complicated by the decision of the UK to leave the EU.

Clocks should be put back by one hour tomorrow night  to mark the end of Summer time also known as Daylight Savings time.
