Tipperary County Council, in partnership with Limerick City & County Council, Transport Infrastructure Ireland and the Department of Transport have today published the second Design Update for the N24 Cahir to Limerick Junction Road Project.

The project is progressing and the Environmental Impact Assessment Reports have been completed and the data collected from land surveys has been factored into the project.

The update consists of 18 separate sheets of maps of the route and the interactive map on the project website has also been updated.

Based on today’s designs the route will not be dual carriageway but will be two lane plus one lane at certain points to ease traffic congestion.

An active travel corridor has been identified as part of the project which aims to encourage walking and cycling for work, school and leisure, linking communities, promoting healthier lifestyles, and reducing transport emissions.

As part of the design development for the road component, there are a number of locations where changes from the corridor previously published in January 2023 are currently being considered by the Design Team – this is reflected in the new drawings.

The project team is now seeking feedback from the public regarding the potential changes.

The designers hope that the changes will enable more reliable times for the bus service between the cities of Limerick and Waterford and enable the provision of potential park and ride facilities at Limerick Junction.

Within Tipperary town, new streets incorporating active travel infrastructure are proposed at Brodeen and Knockanrawley.

These streets will help divert traffic away from Main Street and assist in creating a more attractive environment for people living and working in the centre of Tipperary town.

Full details can be found on the website n24cahirlimerick.ie.

Cllr John Crosse, says without any surprise issues causing delays construction could start by 2028 – the planning application is to be submitted in late 2025.
