Appeal Issued For Tipp Blood Donors Amid Low Levels

8

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service is extremely concerned about the low level of blood stocks on hand. Levels of O, A and B negative blood types are extremely low with less than 5 days’ supply on hand.  A+, B+ and AB positive are also lower than desired.

An appeal is being made for donors to make an appointment for an upcoming blood donation clinic. Clinics are planned for Thurles next week between October 29th to 31st inclusive. In November donation clinics will be held in Tipperary town from Monday 18th to the 20th and in Cappawhite on November 21st.  Regular donors are urged to respond to text alerts while new donors are encouraged to visit giveblood.ie to complete the pre-donation screening. Regular donors can make appointments by calling 1800 731 137 or by booking online on the website.

Levels of blood products on hand are so low that hospitals have been given a pre – amber alert which means that there is risk that some hospitals may have to cancel planned care if the required blood product is out of stock.
