The Lord Mayor of Dublin yesterday presented a special award to the Tipperary International Peace Convention in respect of their Annual Peace Award.

Mayor James Geoghegan wanted to recognise the work of the Tipperary Peace Award since its inaugural winner – Sean McBride in 1984.

Marin Quinn, the Honorary Secretary of the Tipperary Peace Award says it was a wonderful event to be recognised by the Lord Mayor and to receive the Lord Mayor’s Scroll at an event in the Mansion House, Dublin.

Mr Quinn was informed of the award earlier this month and says the event yesterday was a chance for the Lord Mayor James Geoghegan to learn about the history of the award and some of the many recipients over four decades.

The Lord Mayor says it is important work and hopes the Award will continue.

Past recipients include former South African President the late Nelson Mandela, former Presidents of Ireland, Professor Mary McAleese and Mary Robinson, Edward Kennedy and Jean Kennedy Smith, former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, the Syrian Civil Defence White Helmets.

Médecins sans Frontieres/Doctors Without Borders recently received the Award for 2023. Each year the committee seeks nominations from the public for worthy recipients of the Tipperary International Peace Award.
