Cllr O Meara To Seek Fianna Fail Nomination For General Election In North Tipp

Nenagh based Councillor Ryan O ‘Meara is to seek the Fianna Fáil nomination for the General Election in the North Tipp/ North West Kilkenny Constituency.

Sitting TD Jackie Cahill announced on Monday that he would not be a candidate due to health issues.

Mr O’Meara has worked for four years as Deputy Cahill’s Parliamentary Assistant and was elected to Nenagh BD Council in June of this year.

Mr O’Meara says he has been asked by many party members over the last 48 hours to put his name forward.

Ryan O’Meara is 28 and says he can be a fresh, new voice in Dáil Éireann and “adds that it is time that my generation stood up and demanded the representation that we deserve at national level, to ensure our concerns in the areas of housing, health, cost of living, childcare, infrastructure and much more are heard and addressed.”

The party has little time to make the candidate selection as the General Election will be held before Christmas.

Councillor Sean Ryan is also a possible contender for the party nomination as is Cllr Michael Smith and Cllr Kay Cahill Skehan – all three are based in the Thurles Municipal District.

Deputy Michael Lowry confirmed yesterday that he will stand and says he is certain that there is a Fianna Fáil  seat in North Tipperary.

Sitting Labour TD Alan Kelly is also to run in the election in North Tipp as will Iva Pocock for the Green Party, Cllr Phyl Bugler for Fine Gael and Dan Harty for Sinn Fein.
