Public Meeting To Be Held In Thurles Tomorrow Night To Progress Thurles Bypass Delivery

A public meeting is to be held in Thurles tomorrow night to progress the delivery of a Thurles ByPass. The meeting is being organised by a new group led by Sinn Fein GE Candidate Dan Harty. Mr Harty says the campaign needs to learn from groups that successfully campaigned for such roads in Tipperary town and Moyross in Limerick and should be ready to make a submission when the Government opens a call for submissions on the National Development Plan(NDP) Review in 2025.

The Thurles ByPass was removed from the NDP following the financial crash in 2008 and has not been restored in subsequent reviews. The government has indicated that some of the €14B from the Apple tax case will be used to fund major infrastructure projects.

Tipperary County Council agreed a route for the Bypass in 2011 on the eastern side of the town from Brittas to Turtualla linking the N62 north of the town to the N62 south of the town. This has impacted planning applications in the area. The N75 route meets the N62 in the town centre at present with over 14,000 average daily traffic movements on the roads linking to Thurles.

The meeting  in Hayes hotel will begin at  8pm on Thursday night.
