Considerable Disruption Following A Gas Leak At A Construction Site In Cashel Yesterday

There was considerable disruption to traffic and public concern in Cashel yesterday following a gas leak at a construction site near the Old Road.

Gas Networks Ireland were alerted at 3.28pm and were on site by 4.10pm. The company says a third party contacted the company to report damage to a gas pipeline. The situation was made safe by 5.20pm.  Gas networks Ireland says there was no disruption to supply and repairs will be undertaken to ensure the pipeline is fully restored. No injuries have been reported in respect of the incident. Traffic on the Old Road in Cashel that links the Green in Cashel and the Rugby Club was disrupted while the initial repairs were completed. 

The construction project is a new housing development being led by the Respond Approved Housing body.

Gas Networks Ireland is reminding those involved in construction projects to contact the company and obtain details of the gas pipe network before excavation begins.
