Minister of State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works, Kieran O’Donnell, is allocating funding to Tipperary County Council under the Office of Public Works’ Minor Flood Mitigation Works and Coastal Protection Scheme.

Funding of €45,000 is provided for proposed works at Marlfield Village, south west of Clonmel. The proposed works include the installation of temporary works to support the large retaining wall and parapet, removal of all vegetation and trees in the vicinity of the culvert and strengthening the existing stone masonry and concrete retaining walls to the upstream embankments.

Councils can make applications to the scheme annually for minor works to alleviate flooding risks up to a maximum cost of €750,000. Since the scheme was introduced in 2009 Tipperary County Council has made 66 successful applications for funding.
