Sinn Fein have selected Dan Harty to run in the North Tipperary Constituency for the General Election with increasing speculation that the election will be held before Christmas.

Mr Harty ran unsuccessfully in the June Local Election in the Thurles MD but did secure over 740 votes.

For the upcoming election County Tipperary will return a total of 6 TDs – an increase of one compared to 2020 due to population increase. To facilitate the representation requirements, the county is being split into two constituencies – North and South with both to return 3 TDs – North Tipperary will include voters in 13 Local Electoral areas of West Kilkenny.

Mr Harty, aged 37, describes his selection as a huge honour after emerging unopposed from Monday night’s convention at the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh. Mr Harty has extensive experience working in retail and is also a part time farmer – he is also a succession director with Grace & Harty the family business in the veterinary supply industry.

The Sinn Fein candidate says North Tipperary has been failed by the sitting TDs pointing to issues such as lack of new employment opportunities, housing, the Thurles Bypass and healthcare in the mid-west.
