The Minister for Finance says the decision to reward 2.1 million workers through a personal tax package in Budget 2025 meant it was not feasible to cut the VAT rate for the hospitality sector.
It follows a statement from the Cashel Chamber of Commerce who believes the government decision not to cut the VAT from 13.5% to 9% is a devastating blow to businesses, many of which are already struggling to cope with rising costs and economic pressures.
Fianna Fail’s Jack Chambers who visited Cahir and Cashel last week says he’s aware of the challenges facing businesses but feels a new grant Power Up where local businesses can avail up to €4,000 will provide a direct financial boost.
Minister Chambers also believes local businesses should see the benefit of people going into the doors more, with more money in their pocket.
