Continuing Operation Of Tipp Town’s Mr Price In Doubt After An Bord Pleanála Decision

The continuing operation of the Mr Price retail outlet at Bohercrowe, outside Tipperary town is in doubt following a decision by An Bord Pleanála to refuse retention permission for the outlet.

Corajio trading as “Mr. Price” had opened without planning permission and Tipperary County Council Planning office refused to grant retention permission last year.

The council investigated activities at the site when a pop up shop traded in an adjacent unit of the building, which is mostly vacant, in late 2022.

Corajio then appealed that decision to An Bord Pleanála in 2023 leading to last week’s final decision.

The superior planning authority supported the Council’s decision as the location at Bohercrowe is zoned for “light industrial” land use and under the 2013 Tipperary Town Economic Development Plan the land zoning objective is “to provide for light industry and employment and related uses.”

Under the land use zoning rules, a shop and supermarket are explicitly not permitted on this land use zone. The planning documents show that the store employs 22 staff.

The company says a suitable sized property that could facilitate Heavy Goods Vehicles delivering stock to a Mr. Price is not available in the town.
