Wait For Glen Court Housing Estate To Be Taken In Charge By Tipperary Council To Continue

The wait for Glen Court Housing Estate in Emly to be taken in charge by Tipperary Council looks like continuing.

The residents submitted their application over a decade ago and have been pressing Tipperary County Council for action.

In Autumn of 2023 the pumping station at the estate failed leaving the residents with inadequate waste water services.

Tipperary County Council intervened and transported 13 loads of waste material to Thurles Waste Treatment Plant to restore functionality to the pumping station.

Local councillors Anne Marie Ryan and Mary Hanna Hourigan sought action by Tipperary Council on the Taking in Charge application and for some mechanism to be found to ensure over 20 vacant houses on the estate could be brought into use.

In November last year Councillors were informed that progress was being made by the Council working with Uisce Eireann to assess the estate and map the pipe network including those under the vacant houses.

It had been expected that the Council would advertise the Taking in Charge process this year – to date this has not happened.

In a response to Tipp Mid West Radio the Council says it “continues to work on the progression Glen Court, Emly through the taking in charge process and we are engaging with the relevant stakeholders regards the assessment and resolution of technical issues associated with the estate.

Tipperary County Council has recently undertaken works on the estate which include the operation of the Public Lights and underground services infrastructure.

Tipperary Council County continue to work on the progression of this estate through the taking in charge process however the estate remains a private development until it is taken in charge.”
