A joint initiative involving Tipperary Garda and the Tipperary Disability Officer with the HSE has been recognised for it’s excellence in a Europol Policing Award.

The project called “Inside Out” raised awareness about the impact of crime on vulnerable people including people with disabilities and the elderly. The aim of the project is to make communities safer for everyone in the future. The project was completed in 2021.

The project involved a number of stakeholders including students from the Transition year programme in St Anne’s, St Ailbe’s and The Abbey School in Tipperary town.

The students heard directly from the victims of crime and also got the perspective of women prisoners in Limerick prison about how they got involved in behaviour that led to their imprisonment.

Tipperary Disability Officer Anne Bradshaw and Garda Inspector Des Bell travelled to the Hague to accept their award last month.

Gardaí say the project demonstrates how effective modern day law enforcement requires partnership and collaboration.  The award category was for Innovation in Ethics, Diversity and Inclusion.
