A total of 357, 273 visitors paid to view the Rock of Cashel in 2023 according to Fáilte Ireland. The state Tourism Marketing Agency today published the results of its annual survey of attendance at Ireland’s visitor attractions for 2023. Visitor levels in 2023 were 95% of 2019 overall, figures – based on attractions that provided their visitor figures every year since 2019. The share of international visitors attending visitor attractions continued to grow post pandemic, reaching 57% in 2023. Dublin hosted the greatest share of international visitors at 68%, while Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands(the midlands region including North Tipperary) experienced the biggest shift from 21% of international visitors in 2022 to 32% in 2023.
Despite the increase in online booking capabilities, walk-up visitors remained the most common type of visitor for all attraction types in 2023, averaging 65%.
In County Tipperary the data reveals that 357,273 visitors paid into the Rock of Cashel in 2023, Cahir Castle reports 85,014 visitors with third place in Tipperary fee charging Visitor Attractions going to the Swiss Cottage, Cahir, with 30,126 visitors. An estimated 64,000 thousand people visited Hore Abbey which is a free site. Mitchelstown Caves had 11,000 paying visitors last year. Other fee paying sites in county Tipperary include Roscrea Heritage Grounds with 7,596 customers, Ormond Castle in Carrick on Suir with 5,124 visitors and The Fethard Horse Country Experience with 280 visitors.
