The Tipperary Cahir Cashel MD council today approved a Part 8 Planning Proposal for a walkway from Solohead to Limerick Junction with four recommendations.

The Council is responding to concerns about security and privacy raised in many of the 207 valid submissions received and the proposed walking path will now terminate at the point where it meets the existing right of way to the Tipperary Racecourse property.

No part of the pathway will be installed behind the houses in Limerick Junction situated between the Railway Station and the N24 road.

An additional mesh fence of 2.4m is proposed on the west of the walkway and along the boundary of Acraboy House to strengthen the security and privacy of the property.

The planners declined to alter the route to link to the Solohead ambush site rather than the Solohead memorial site as proposed in one submission on the grounds that the land owner preferred the walkway to be along the property boundary and to avoid an area prone to flooding.

The materials and finishes of the gates and fences on the walkway are to be agreed with the Planning Section prior to works commencing on the site.

An existing Badger set will be given due care during the construction and operation of the walkway. Despite receiving planning approval today the Cathaoirleach, Cllr John Crosse, says issues that arose after the closing date for submissions may be given consideration, if and when the project which has yet to secure funding, is being delivered.

A total of 207 valid submissions were received by the Council – the submissions and project details can be viewed at this link here.
