Five sports clubs in county Tipperary have been deemed eligible to apply for a €15M Fund to install new Electric Vehicle(EV) Chargers on their grounds for their members and visitors.

The eligible clubs are Rockwell Rovers GAA club, Upperchurch Drombane GAA Club, Killavilla United AFC, Roscrea Golf Club, and Cloughjordan FC.

Nationally 227 sports clubs are deemed eligible to progress to the delivery phase of the Shared Island Sports Club EV Charging Infrastructure Scheme. The Scheme is funded through the Government’s Shared Island Initiative and EV Infrastructure Fund.

The aim is to ramp up  public EV charging in local communities and to offer the potential for clubs to generate income.

227 of 295 applications met the scheme qualifying and suitability criteria.

The main reasons some applications were unsuccessful were not satisfying minimum requirements including – no license submitted to facilitate site visits, no 3-phase electricity and/or no toilet facilities on site or within 500m.
