Local Councillors Agree Not To Reinstate Seating At Tipp Town’s Kickham Place

Local councillors today agreed to not reinstate seating at Kickham Place in Tipperary town.

Cllr John Crosse had submitted a motion requesting that the seating, which was removed by a private citizen on August 17th/18th in frustration at ongoing anti-social behaviour, would not be reinstated.

Councillors discussed the matter at a workshop prior to the Municipal District Council Meeting and Cllr Crosse indicated that Council’s engineers expressed dissatisfaction that someone took a decision to remove the seating as the Council had secured Departmental funding to install the seats in the first place.

In response to the motion the Council says that the 4 benches and one picnic table were “removed without the knowledge or permission of Tipperary County Council.

On recovery it was determined that in the interim they had been damaged and are no longer fit for purpose and therefore cannot be used at their original location or anywhere else.

The cost of replacement benches is approximately €4,000 according to the Council response.”
