10 New Garda Recruits To Be Assigned To Southern Region

Ten of the 108 new Garda that graduated from the Garda College in Templemore on Friday will be assigned to the Southern Region which includes county Tipperary.

80 of the new Garda are male and 9 were born outside the state in countries such as Slovakia, Poland, Romania, India, Lithuania and Ethiopia.


The new personnel brings the number of sworn Garda in the force to 14,146 while there are 323 Garda reserves and 3,609 civilian staff in An Garda Siochana.

A further 343 Garda recruits are currently undergoing the training programme at the Garda College and a new group will enter the College today.

The vast majority of Friday’s graduates – 74, were assigned to Dublin, the Eastern region got 16, the north west 8 and 10 to the southern region.

Locally Cashel and Bansha Garda Stations are due to reopen after renovations as of now it is unclear as to what staffing complement will be assigned to both locations.
