Fianna Fáil has selected the current Leas Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council as their candidate for the forthcoming General Election. Cllr Imelda Goldsboro from Ballingarry – a councillor in the Carrick on Suir Municipal District, first elected in 2011, is to seek a Dáil seat in the South Tipperary Constituency. Ms Goldsboro has made her intention to seek the nomination known over a period of several months.
Tipperary is to be split into two 3 seat Constituencies for the next General Election instead of the 5 seater format for the entire county as at the last election. South Tipperary has two sitting TDs – Rural Independent Mattie McGrath and Sinn Fein’s Martin Browne – both will contest the election. In addition to Ms Goldsboro for Fianna Fáil, Cllr Michael Murphy is to run for Fine Gael, former TD Seamus Healy will stand for the Workers Unemployed Action Group(WUAG) and Independent Councillor John O’Heney is also a declared candidate for the next General Election widely expected to be held in mid-November.
