We are Still Here Sean Ross Abbey Group Release 2023 Ground Scans Report

The We are Still Here Sean Ross Abbey Group has released the report relating to the ground scans undertaken at Sean Ross Abbey in 2023. The complex was used as a Mother and Baby Home between the 1930s and 1970 and the group are trying to establish what happened to the children reported to have died at the home as they believe here are more burial grounds than the official Angel Plot

The decision to release the scan was taken on foot of a delay by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability Integration and Youth(DCEDIY) in providing a review of the survey to ascertain the next steps that should be taken. The Department funded the scans of an area of interest adjacent to the Angel Plot but has not yet released it’s scientific analysis of the findings. The scan report identified some anomalies.

Teresa Collins, spokesperson for the Group says while grateful for the funding support the group is anxious to have the findings released to determine if further investigation possibly including excavations are required.  It is understood that technical experts in the Department of Heritage have completed their analysis of the scans and that their report is now with the Department of DCEDIY.

“Ms Collins adds that “Survivors of Sean Ross Abbey, and their families, have gone through decades of waiting for justice.  We just cannot tolerate any further, undue delays.”
