590
Five submissions have been made to Tipperary county Council so far in respect to the Liberty Square, Thurles phase two renovation works which also includes parts of Westgate, Friar Street, Parnell Street, the junction at Parnell Street and Castle Avenue, Cuchulainn road and O’Donovan Rossa street.
The project will see a reduction of 12 parking spaces on the island at the west end of liberty square and a reduction in on street parking in the area.  The council plan does reference a future intention to provide an extra 30 car parking spaces by extending the existing Parnell street car park but this is not covered in this application. The development report also proposed placing a double yellow line on Parnell Street. The planned works are extensive and include a number of new pedestrian crossings, raised tables at the junctions at either end of Cuchulainn Road and that Cuchulainn road becomes one-way street with traffic travelling towards O’Donovan Rossa Street.
The submissions to date ask the council to reconsider reducing parking near the Premier Hall, to install a second bus stop (outside Supermacs) in addition to the stop outside Mockler’s Pharmacy, to address the footpaths on Parnell street, dereliction in Westgate and Friar Street while Uisce Éireann’s submission is asking that all designs ensure water infrastructure is protected and accessible.
Submissions can be made free of charge until 4.30pm on Friday August 30th. Full details of the proposed works are available in the council office on Castle Avenue, Thurles and online at this link here  – please scroll down the page to view the documents and the submissions to date.
