Cashel Community School is now at the tender stage for a major new school building project which has been in design for several years. A modular building was installed to deal with the shortage of teaching space and this is now to be replaced with a permanent building and extensive refurbishments to the existing facilities. The work will be completed in four phases that may take over two years to complete from the commencement of the construction works.
The first phase is the new extension which is expected to take 18 months with 6 new classrooms, customized Special Education Needs facilities and a new staffroom, then this building will be connected to the existing structure, internal works are planned to provide the new canteen, a Digital Graphics Room and the refurbishment of the ASD space – the final phase will see the removal of the existing modular structure. The students will also  benefit from a new communal area and a sensory garden when the work is completed.  The school which is celebrating 30 years in existence now accommodates 902 students.
School Principal John Gallagher, who retires on September 12th says all stakeholders have been great to work with and adds that the Department of Education has been very responsive to meeting the needs identified by the Board of Management.
Once the tender is approved the Department will have to give a final approval for the work to commence.
