Cabragh Wetlands Trust To Hold 26 Free Events To Raise Awareness Of Environmental Issues

Cabragh Wetlands Trust, an environmental education and conservation organisation near Thurles is to hold a series of 26 free events between September and November to increase awareness of environmental issues.  The sessions will be offered ideally to groups of 20 which can be made up of individuals or groups from clubs and organisations ranging from youth clubs, to active retired, drama groups sports groups etc. The content of the event and the day and time will be tailored to suit the particular group but will include a tour of the wetlands, examination of environmental monitoring equipment and a range of presentations.  The events are provided free of charge to participants as a grant of €25,606 from the National Parks and Wildlife Service under its Peatlands and Natura Community Engagement Scheme 2024 will be used to fund the informal training.

 The overall aim is to create a greater awareness of the range of actions people can take to understand and improve the environment, protect biodiversity, reduce waste, reduce emissions and improve water quality. The group or individual may have a particular area of focus.

Refreshments and music is also included and depending on the group, quizzes, treasure hunts and up-cycling workshops may also be included.  The sessions will be a mix of indoor events in the Visitor Centre and outdoor activities including exploring  the pathways, pond, bird hides and Cosmic sculpture trail.
