Sinn Féin TD Martin Browne is highlighting that average new yearly rents in Tipperary have increased by €6,216 over the past four years. Deputy Browne says the increase is a damning indictment of Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and the Green Party’s abject failure to address the housing crisis.
Deputy Browne added that the only way to start fixing the housing crisis is with a change of government and the implementation of Sinn Féin’s alternative housing plan.
The latest report from property sales platform daft.ie shows that average new yearly rents in Tipperary have increased by 10.7% in the last year alone. Deputy Browne says the housing crisis is severally impacting on all aspects of life and notes that recent Parliamentary Budget Office data shows that 115,000 households had an ongoing housing need last year, with a growing number of older people remaining on social housing waiting lists or relying on Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) to keep a roof over their head.
