Tipperary County Council is encouraging the public to take part in the development of a County Biodiversity Action Plan. To help advance the project the council has now published a 7-page discussion paper and will hold a number of drop-in information sessions between August 19th in Carrick on Suir library and August 27th in Nenagh library. In addition, sessions will be held in Thurles Library today Tuesday August 20th between 3pm and 7pm, in Clonmel Library on August 21st between 3pm and 7pm and in Tipperary town library on August 22nd between 2 and 5pm.

In simple terms, biodiversity or biological diversity is the variety of all living things on earth and scientists say that a wide range of bees, insects, pollinators, and birds etc. are in decline which will eventually impact humans.  The threats to biodiversity are wide ranging and include Climate Change, Habitat loss & fragmentation, Agricultural expansion, Pollution, Drainage of wetlands, Modification of rivers and Invasive Species.

Any person wishing to make a submission on the Biodiversity Action Plan can do so via the information events, by post to the council offices  or online at this link here before September 12th.  The work will be led by the Council’s Biodiversity Officer Anne Marie Fleming who was appointed to the newly created post last year.
