Cashel library has released details of events planned for next week as part of Heritage week running from August 17th – 25th.
The events are aimed at adults and those interested in attending are asked to telephone 062 63825 to book a place at the free events.
The week beings with a chance to speak Gaelic in an hour long Comhrá sa Leabharlann at 11am on Monday, Tuesday at 11.30am will provide an hour long broadcast of the Lost songs of Ireland, Wednesday afternoon a Céilí will run from 3 to 4pm and on Friday the day is dedicated to Charles Bianconi – a migrant from Italy who established Ireland’s first public transport service. Mr Bianconi set a goal to one-day purchase Longfield house in Boherlahan and subsequently achieved his goal. Charles Bianconi and his wife are buried in the Bianconi Mortuary Chapel in the Boherlahan village.
Cashel Library will screen a documentary film, by Bailey and Blake, about Charles Bianconi at 10.30am, 11.45am and 2pm on Friday August 16th followed by a talk about Charles Bianconi commencing at 3pm. The film is titled “The man who Changed Ireland” and was launched earlier this year.
Separately on August 17th beginning at noon there is a guided walk from the Moate in Ardmayle to The Bianconi Mortuary Chapel in Boherlahan. Places must be booked by telephone at 086 3723164 or email [email protected]. The walk is 1.5km in distance. The Chapel will be opened to display an exhibition about it’s construction.
