Two People Arrested In Relation To The Murder Of Ms Josephine Ray

Gardaí in Nenagh have arrested two people in relation to the murder of Ms Josephine Ray at her home in Nenagh last weekend. Garda say they continue to investigate all the circumstances surrounding the death of 89 year old Ms Ray, whose body was discovered at her residence at St Joseph’s Park, Nenagh, on the afternoon of Sunday, 4th August 2024.

Two people, a man and woman aged in their 50s, were arrested today. They are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Garda stations in the Southern Region. Earlier today Ms Ray’s Funeral Mass took place at St Mary of the Rosary Church in Nenagh followed by burial at Killodiernan Graveyard some 7 miles from Nenagh close to Puckane. Ms Ray’s granddaughter Rosie delivered a tearful eulogy describing Ms Ray as a legend in the St Joseph’s Park area and a true lady that will always be remembered – Rosie recalled how Ms Ray had recently started to attend the Day Care Centre 5 days a week and enjoyed the care and company. 

Ms Ray, a hugely popular member of the community in Nenagh lived at the residence in St Joseph’s Park with some of her family members. She is survived by her 4 daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family.  Ms Ray was predeceased by her husband Paddy and daughter, Joan O’Brien.

A song by Joe Dolan “Goodbye my Friend” was played as the coffin was removed from the Church for the journey to Ms Ray’s final resting place.
