Tpperary Sinn Féin TD Martin Browne is calling for local authorities to follow the example set by Ireland’s Olympians with an initiative to put empty units into use for sports clubs in need of a premises.

Deputy Browne says the Irish success at the Olympics will attract more young people to the sports clubs that operate across the county.

The TD cited the example of boxing clubs unable to secure a permanent suitable premises for their activities.

Deputy Browne is calling on Tipperary County Council to show greater willingness to explore the option of making vacant premises available to sports clubs adding that he intends to engage with council and departmental officials to bring about this change.

The TD highlights that there is no better time than now to initiate that change and show appreciation to those sports clubs who run on a shoestring, but offer a great service to their communities in providing a positive outlet for our young people.
