Residents Continue To Express Concerns Over Temporary Traffic Lights On N74

The contractors working on the N74 road project in Tipperary town expect to be able to remove three sets of temporary traffic lights at the Junction of the N74(Cashel Road) and the Knockanrawley Road yesterday evening.

The lights were required as a number of test sites had to be excavated to find a water main that was not recorded on project maps. The temporary lights had originally been scheduled to be in place until August 13th.

Drivers and residents continue to express concern about the potential for a collision in the road works area as despite the traffic lights some drivers were moving out of turn and despite “Road Closed” signs some drivers travel westward on the N74 section that is intended to operate as a single lane one-way eastbound street to take a shortcut to their destination and avoid the diversion via Knockanrawley and the Bansha Road.

The works are due to take a total of 18 months to complete.

The area is further disrupted at present due to separate crews working on Broadband installation in parts of St Michael’s Avenue. Businesses in the area are continuing to operate – however Crystal Cleaners Laundry and Dry Cleaning service is not available at the Fr Matthew(Cashel Road) outlet until the road works are completed in 2025.

The company continues to operate at 68 Main Street (next to O’Rahelly Sports) Tel 062 51252.

The road works project details can be found on a dedicated website n74tipperarytown.ie and a WhatsApp Group number is available at 087 349 3645.
