Sinn Féin’s Affordable Homes Plan will deliver affordable homes according to Tipperary TD Martin- Browne. The plan sets out how a Sinn Féin government would deliver affordable homes, costing between €250,000 to €300,000. The TD says home ownership is an aspiration for many people but at present they are simply priced out of the market.
Next month the party is to publish a comprehensive, detailed and fully costed alternative five year housing plan setting out how Sinn Fein would address the housing crisis in Government. The Party is setting a target to deliver 50,000 affordable homes to rent and buy across the state. The homes would be delivered by Local Authorities, Approved Housing Bodies and Community Housing Trusts. They would be for sale at prices from €250,000 to €300,000.
The proposal is that the State will provide or cover the cost of the land, site servicing and utility connections, and waive development levies. The affordable purchase homes will be available to single people and couples who earn up to €90,000 a year gross. The affordable rentals are targeted at people on net incomes of up to €66,000 in Dublin and €59,000 elsewhere. The homes are targeted at those earning too much to qualify for social housing but too little to be able to rent or buy on the private market.
