A total of 48 individuals and groups from county Tipperary are taking part in the National Fleadh in Wexford. President Higgins formally opened the event on Sunday which will run until August 11th. The Tipperary competitors qualified after the Munster Fleadh held in Thurles last month. Organisers expect 500,000 people to visit Wexford over the coming days.
This is Wexford’s first year in hosting the Fleadh which had been held most recently in Mullingar This year’s theme is “Fleadh for All”- the event is being organised by Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann along with Wexford County Council and they hope to reflect this through the week’s programme of music, song, dance, workshops and performances that include the using the National Opera House in Wexford as a venue.
