Tipperary University Hospital in Clonmel has emerged as the winner of Ireland’s Fittest Intensive Care Unit(ICU).

In spring of this year, the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) staff at St. Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin organized a fitness challenge. Tipperary University Hospital (TippUH) emerged as the overall winners, narrowly beating Tallaght University Hospital by just 2 points over the 4-week period.

According to Hospital Manager, Maria Barry, the ICU Staff set “such a healthy work life balance while getting fit”  – Ms Barry adds that” it is a testament to them as people and sets a brilliant example for the rest of us.”

Across 19 ICUs, a total of 649 people participated, by walking 39,095 km, running 13,416 km, cycling 15,707 km and swimming over 354 km with points awarded for every kilometre they walked, ran, cycled, or swam.

TippUH continued their commitment to health and fitness, by completing the additional 100k challenge in June.
