The Residents Association in Limerick Junction is calling on the local GAA club to withdraw their support for a project intended to deliver a walkway that will connect the Sologhead Memorial to the Train Station, The Racecourse and the N24 roadway.
The project is being put forward by the Revitalisation Task Force and Tipperary County Council.
In a statement issued last evening the Residents Group say they are shocked to see that the GAA club is supportive of the project.
The residents say the GAA club did not consult with the local residents to understand their security fears.
The proposal involves part of the walkway being installed behind the rear gardens of houses between the train station and the N24.
Residents have submitted over 200 submissions and want the council to remove this portion of the project and propose that walkers instead use the recently refurbished footpaths to the front of the houses to reach the N24 and the Racecourse.
The GAA club has issued a statement saying that whilst welcoming the benefits of this proposed walking pathway, the Club are “also very mindful of safety concerns raised by residents along the proposed route of the pathway and asks that Tipperary County Council carefully consider these concerns regarding the proposed route in order to find an avenue to address these concerns. “
The matter is likely to be before the 11 local councillors for a vote at their September MD meeting.
