Irish Women’s 7’s Rugby Team Defeated By Australia In Quarter Final Match

The Irish women’s 7’s rugby team were defeated in last night’s quarter final match against Australia. The final score was Australia 40 Ireland 7. The Irish team will now take part in the games to decide the ranking from 5th  to 8th  for the 4 losing quarter  finalists. At 2pm today the Irish team will take on the French side to decide the overall placings from 5th to 8th. This is first time the Irish  team qualified  for the Olympic 7s event.  

Mona McSharry secured Ireland’s first medal at the Paris Olympics in finishing third last night in the   100M Breaststroke event.  Tipperary’s rower Daire Lynch and Philip Doyle take part in their Semi-final at 10am this morning while tonight Daniel Wiffen is a medal contender in the  800m swimming event at 8pm tonight.
