The HSE is to offer a number of clinics in Cashel and Carrick on Suir for Measles, Mumps and Rubella Vaccination in early August. The clinics are being provided due to a rise in measles cases in Ireland, the UK and continental Europe. The catch up clinics will be held in Cashel on the 7th of August and Carrick on Suir on the 9th of August for five year olds to those aged 46.
The HSE has advised that the MMR Vaccine is the only protection against measles.
Measles is a highly infectious disease that can cause serious complications, particularly in children under one year of age, pregnant women, and the immunosuppressed.
Children in the under five year old age bracket are being vaccinated by their GP. The HSE is appealing to people who are bringing their families on holidays outside of Ireland this summer to go to their GPs to have their babies between six and 11 months vaccinated. They will then get their next dose as normal by their GP at 12 months and their final dose in junior infants.
The clinic in Cashel will run from 11am until 2pm on Wednesday 7th of August in the HSE’s mobile vaccination unit situated at Our Lady’s Hospital Campus, Cashel. (E25 P407)
On Friday August 9th the mobile vaccination unit will be located at the Carrick on Suir Primary Care Centre (E32 DK66) also from 11am to 2pm.
These clinics are open to those born in Ireland since the 1st January 1978 and do not have evidence of two MMR vaccines, or if they were born outside of Ireland and do not have evidence of two MMR vaccines at any age.
MMR vaccines are available free of charge. A list of Vaccination Clinics is available on the HSE website. All clinics are walk-in or you can book an appointment on the HSE website.
The HSE will also provide targeted clinics for specific groups including students and young people in education settings and underserved groups.
