County Tipperary reports the same number of people in Emergency Accommodation for June as for the month of May with 40 people availing of Emergency Accommodation. In county Limerick there is an increase of 15 people in Emergency Accommodation to 425 needing state provided accommodation in June. These figures do not include people who may be sleeping in cars, sleeping rough or living in overcrowded conditions. A total of over 3,200 are on the approved list for Social Housing in Tipperary at present.
Nationally, a total of 14,303 individuals accessed Emergency Accommodation in June 2024 – an increase of 144 (1%) on May 2024. The Department of Housing released the June homeless report on Friday last.
There were 9,899 single adults and 2,093 families in emergency accommodation in June, including 4,404 children under 18. The total number of adults in Emergency Accommodation in June is up by 56 compared to May while the figure for children is up by 88.
Commenting on the data, the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien, says
“The June 2024 Monthly Homeless Report unfortunately records a further increase in the number of individuals accessing emergency accommodation. Supporting individuals and families facing homelessness is a top priority for this Government. The Minister adds that “Increasing the supply of housing is critical to address homelessness and noted that, over €5bn in investment is available to support the delivery of housing.”
