Garda Community Engagement Van Extend Advice To People Travelling

581

The Garda Community Engagement van recently visited the Christ The King statue and viewing point in the Glen of Aherlow and is advising people to always park their vehicle in an area of high traffic if possible. Garda also warn that no items should be left in view in the vehicle and that ideally people should keep their travel documents and money on their person in secure bags or pockets. Visitors are also advised to use technology to record their vehicle location in a map app before exploring the area.

Any person that is the victim of a crime should contact local Gardaí or seek assistance from the Irish Tourist Assistance Service.  This service is a free, nationwide support service, dedicated to international visitors who experience a crime or other distressing incidents – available 7 days a week. Full details are available on on the website touristsos.ie. A number of tourist visitors have been the victim of high profile serious assault in recent times – most recently a teacher from France being attacked by a man bearing a screwdriver in Cork earlier this week.  The teacher and 22 students aged between 12 and 14 were targeted as they left a restaurant on St Patrick’s Street at around 10pm on Tuesday. A man and a woman aged in their 20s are being sought by Garda in respect of the incident in which one of the student’s phones was stolen and the teacher suffered several puncture wounds to his back when he gave chase.
