18th Annual Famine 1848 Walk To Take Place At The End Of July

The 18th Annual Famine 1848 Walk will take place on Saturday July 27th  at 3pm commencing in the Commons village.

The Walk remembers all who suffered and died during the famine and the 1848 Rising in Ballingarry.  The Walk will be led by Martin Maher, the Committee Chair and the Editor of the Ballingarry Parish Journal.  Mr Maher will also deliver the Walk Leader’s address at the 1848 Famine war house also known as “The Widow McCormack’s House. In 1848 Rebels led by William Smith O’Brien were ultimately overwhelmed at the house and retreated towards Thurles where they were later arrested by Crown Forces.


The walk will commence from the Young Ireland and National Flag Monument in The Commons Village.
