3 Tipperary Athletes To Compete As Part Of The Irish Olympics Team

Three athletes from Tipperary are amongst the 133 strong Irish Team taking part in the Olympic Games in Paris. Competitive events begin today with the men’s Rugby sevens in action but the formal opening ceremony will be held on Friday.

Amee-Leigh Murphy Crowe from Lattin features in the Women’s Rugby 7’s, Sharlene Mawdsley Newport, will compete in three events in athletics and  Daire Lynch, Clonmel, is a member of Ireland’s Rowing team.  The designer of Team Ireland’s official uniform, Laura Weber, has included an embroidered county crest in each of the white jackets which will be worn by athletes as they sail down the Seine.

Ireland’s men’s rugby sevens have two matches today against South Africa and Japan with their final pool match against New Zealand tomorrow.  

The Paris Olympics will run from July 26 until August 11 amidst high security with authorities facing a number of security concerns.
