Councillors in the Tipperary Cahir Cashel Municipal District today agreed to bring forward the next planned Community Safety Meeting from October to a date as soon as possible given an increase in anti social behaviour in recent times and concerns about policing resources in Cashel.
Today’s MD meeting heard that there were no Garda reps from the Cahir Cashel area at the last Community Safety meeting. Cllr Declan Burgess proposed the change and was supported by Cllrs Roger Kennedy, Liam Browne and John O’Heney who says he has been inundated with complaints about a lack of a sense of security from residents in the Emly area.
Cllr Liam Brown described the levels of crime and antisocial behaviour in Cashel as being “out of control” and informed the meeting that he had written to the Garda Superintendent seeking a public meeting in Cashel with members of An Garda Siochana local management asked to attend. Cllr Roger Kennedy expects that such a meeting might naturally follow from the Community Safety meeting which will now be arranged by council officials dependent on the availability of local Garda representatives.
The Garda station in Cashel is currently closed for ongoing renovations and a public office is made available at the former Motor Tax office on Friar Street for a limited number of hours per week.
