Farmers and landowners are invited to attend the 8th annual Knowledge Transfer event at Gurteen Agricultural college tomorrow. The free event is organised by a number of stakeholders, the College, Teagasc, the Irish Farmers Journal, Macra, TUS university, the IFA and Tipperary County Council. Gurteen College is located between Borrisokane and Birr at E53 TP93.E53
The event, beginning at 9.30am will feature 3 parallel discussions with over 70 speakers and one outdoor demonstration. The speakers will include the Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue, Francie O’Gorman IFA president and Graeme Lockhead, the Commercial Director of Nephin Renewables headquartered in Tipperary town. The company hopes to develop a network of Bio methane plants across the Country to supply the national Gas Grid. Renewable energy is a key focus in terms of using solar panels on rooftops to cut the landowners energy costs or at a larger scale as alternative land use. Bio methane production via Anaerobic Digesters is also examined at the event where legal advice as regards land leases will be provided. Food production will also be addressed with a focus on the producer further developing the product to sell it at a higher price to benefit from the added value.
