A new clinic has been opened at Nenagh Hospital as the hospital continues to add a range of services to it’s healthcare provision especially for women.

A ‘see and treat’ Colorectal Pelvic Floor Clinic is the latest service added to the existing Ambulatory Gynaecological Unit(AGU). The AGU opened in March 2022 and deals with a range of conditions including abnormal intrauterine bleeding, chronic pelvic pain, evaluation of adnexal mass, sexual minority health, and amenorrhea or the absence of menstruation in adolescence.

The HSE says that the new clinic not only allows patients of Mid-West region to access treatment locally for the first time, but also significantly reduces the time between the first symptoms and diagnosis and treatment of what can be a very debilitating condition for patients.

Patients suffering Pelvic Floor dysfunction may experience constipation, difficulty emptying their bowels, having urine or stool leakage and experience a frequent need to release urine.Ms Christina Fleming, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, is the Clinical Lead for the Colorectal Pelvic Floor Service which is located alongside the Ambulatory Gynaecology Unit in the outpatient’s department at Nenagh Hospital as part of the Mid-West Regional Health Hub for Women – which also provides a menopause clinic and subfertility service.
